General Montgomery arriving at Lydda

Gen Montgomery leaving his aircraft.

"Did you read in the paper yesterday about Montgomery arriving at Lydda airport, from Egypt. 'Operation Bull' went into action - the 7th Batt formed the guard of honour for the old boy. Apparently he just wandered around the ranks murmured 'Good show' and wandered away. He took no chances with the terrorists - had an escort of four jeeps filled with human armouries." 11th November 1946, letter from Des Le Pard to his girlfriend, Barbs.
